Welcome to HeadWorks Physiotherapy: Overcoming face and jaw pain. Our specialist, Sharon Farquharson, successfully completed the certification process offered by the Physical Therapy Board of Craniofacial and Cervical Therapeutics (PTBCCT) to become a Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT). At the moment, there are only eight CCTTs in Canada, three of whom, including Sharon, are in Vancouver, BC.
HeadWorks Physiotherapy is located in Burnaby, in beautiful British Columbia. Sharon completed her Physiotherapy degree at the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. She has mostly worked in orthopaedics, with a brief foray into geriatrics and pediatrics.
Over the years, Sharon has developed a treatment philosophy that combines patient education and exercise prescription with dedicated, one-to-one hands-on interaction with her clients, using a whole body approach.
She has a keen interest in Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) and orofacial pain and is a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. She is always looking for avenues to improve and expand her knowledge base and techniques. At the same time, she is looking to complement her techniques with Osteopathy and Craniosacral Therapy, and is always eager to learn as she believes that no learning is ever wasted.
Sharon is also extremely interested in Pain Science and has attended several seminars and courses in order to better understand her clients who are suffering from pain and chronic pain.
She has been regularly attending the annual scientific meeting of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and has committed to attending this annual meeting every year to keep abreast of cutting edge research, knowledge and skills for your benefit. However with the current COVID19 pandemic and its associated travelling and gathering restrictions, the meeting for 2020 was held virtually, and so will the meeting for 2021. Sharon has and will attend both meetings virtually.
In these meetings, researchers and clinicians in various disciplines of dentistry and medicine help to enlighten the (virtual) attendees regarding advancements in research and techniques as it incumbent upon clinicians, educators, and researchers who manage orofacial pain to be current with these evolving developments.
Sharon also completed her training with Joy Moeller in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. She is now qualified to treat orofacial myofunctional disorders. Please read this for more detail.
